VC Shield is a landmark innovation from Somany, developed using proprietary Veil Craft Hard Coat Technology, where a specialised protective transparent layer is applied above the printed glaze to form a dense, high-performance shield. This engineered layer significantly enhances resistance to abrasion, stains, and wear, ensuring long-term retention of finish, colour clarity, and surface integrity even in demanding environments. The innovation earned Somany its first global patent (No. 227692) and international recognition, including the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) Corporate Technical Achievement Award (2014). From a performance standpoint, VC Shield tiles are engineered to withstand extreme abrasion cycles, achieving up to 50,000 revolutions, a performance level that is significantly higher than the highest classification under the PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute) scale (PEI V: 12,000 + revolutions), which categorises tiles based on abrasion resistance.
