Foundation & First Plant
H L Somany, in technical collaboration with Pilkington Holding (UK), forms Somany Pilkington Ltd. and gets listed at DSE in 1970. Starts production at Kassar, Haryana, with a capacity of 0.52 million sqmt.
Second Unit Commissioned
Second manufacturing unit set up in Kadi, Gujarat, with a capacity of 0.35 million sqmt. per annum, total capacity increases to 2.65 million sqmt.
Technology & Market Expansion
Commissioning of higher tonnage new-age hydraulic presses gets commissioned at Kassar,Haryana. Started ceramic floor tiles production with new-age roller kilns. Distributions footprint increases across India and Somany becomes a household name.
Ownership Transition Complete
Somany family acquires holding stake from Pilkington Tile Holiding UK, renames it SPL Ltd.
R&D Recognition Milestone
Somany’s R&D department becomes the 1st and the only company in the tile industry to be recognised by the Government of India. India’s 1st Double fast firing unit setup. Double fast firing units set up in Haryana and Gujarat with a combined capacity of 12000 sqmt. per day.
Brand Identity Evolution
Company gets renamed as Somany Ceramics Ltd.
Global Patent Achievement
Earns India’s 1st global patent for “High Abrasion Resistant Glaze Composition” known as VC Shield Hardcoat Technology.
Diverse Production Begins
Production of Duragres, Glazed Vitrified Tiles starts at Haryana with a capacity of 7000 sqmt. per day. 1st in the indystry to receive a BIS mark. Gets certified by the Green Building Council
Slip Technology Innovation
Files patent for in-house developed “Slip-Resistant Tile Technology”
Building Solutions Expansion
In-house production of Ezyfix Adhesive starts at Haryana. Establishment of a bath fitting unit in Punjab to become a complete provider of bathware solutions.
South India Expansion
JV formed to start its 1st South India Tile.
Adhesive Capacity Expansion
Automated plant for EzyFix Adhesive trebles capacity.
